Lançado originalmente em 11 de dezembro de 1970, Plastic Ono Band seguiu três singles de sucesso que John lançou em 1969, após a separação dos Beatles – Give Peace A Chance, Cold Turkey e Instant Karma! (We All Shine On), três gravações avant-garde lançadas com Yoko (Two Virgins, Life With The Lions e Wedding Album) e o álbum ao vivo do concerto, Live Peace In Toronto (1969), gravado com a sempre em evolução Plastic Ono Band, que contou com a participação de Eric Clapton, Klaus Voormann e Alan White nesta performance lendária. Plastic Ono Band foi o primeiro álbum solo de John pós-Beatles, então o interesse era grande para ver o que ele faria com sua recém-descoberta liberdade criativa. Em 2021, Yoko Ono Lennon e Capitol/UMe celebram 50 anos da transformadora e influente obra-prima de Lennon! John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band agora com mais um 1 CD que inclui as Ultimate Mixes do álbum original e os três singles não pertencentes ao álbum e como uma versão expandida de 2CDs.
