A banda teve o novo disco produzido por Rick Rubin, o mesmo produtor dos cinco álbuns anteriores da banda: Stadium Arcadium (2006), By The Way (2002), Californication (1999), One Hot Minute (1995) e Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991). O álbum foi mixado por Andrew Scheps e Greg Fidelman.

Red Hot Chili Peppers já vendeu mais de 60 milhões de álbuns em todo o mundo e ganhou 5 LPs multi-platina, além de 6 Grammy Awards, incluindo as categorias “Best Rock Album” com Stadium Arcadium, “Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group” com Dani California, “Best Rock Song” com Scar Tissue, e “Best Hard Rock Performance With Vocal” com Give It Away.
